- Note: While Extra Kit can be installed as standalone, if the base Kurogane no Houkou 2 is installed you can play through base game's stages with revisions and additions introduced through Extra Kit.
In addition to new (and revised) area and stages, hulls, parts, aircraft (including helicopters), Extra Mode introduces the following new features
New Features
- Increased technology level cap: Only available if both base game and Extra Kit are installed. R&D technology level cap is increased from 30 to 35.
- Survival mode: Only available if both base game and Extra Kit are installed. Play through Area A-01 to F-11 in one sitting. Player health doesn't recover between stages but ammunition and lost escort ships are restored, however custom ships cannot be assigned as escort ship. Special reward is given upon completing stage F-11 depending on how many HLG parts obtained through the entire run.
- Stage select: Previously completed area and stage can be directly selected from the briefing screen without needing to start over from the beginning of the area.
- Custom escort ship: Player built ship can be assigned as escort ships. As such formation value calculation is revised with player controlled flagship now counts towards formation value. Flagship and custom escort ship formation cost vary on hull type used.
- Special hulls and deployable ships: Brand new special hulls can be equipped with ship hangar allowing them to carry and deploy smaller ships such as PT boats and hovercraft.
- Destroyer hulls and bridge with hangar: With the addition of new superstructures and hulls, certain high end destroyer hulls and bridges can carry and deploy aircraft.
- VTOL and helicopters: New VTOL and helicopter aircraft type can be carried and deployed from other ship class aside aircraft carrier/battlecarrier.
